REBATES AND SUBSIDIES
You may be eligible for financial assistance when seeking support for your child. You do not require a referral to see a speech pathologist but a referral from your GP, paediatrician or psychiatrist under a government rebate system, may allow you to receive a rebate for our service. Read below for the various types of supports available
If you are referred by a GP under a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan (formerly Enhanced Primary Care plan), your child may be eligible for a Medicare rebate ($52.95 per session) on up to 5 allied health services per calendar year. Your child will require a referral from the GP for these rebated sessions.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme may be available for those with developmental delays, disabilities or difficulties across multiple areas of development. Depending on your situation, the NDIS can cover the cost of many allied health services. For further information, please refer to the NDIS website.
Private Health Insurance
Private Health Insurance: Speech pathology services may be eligible for you to claim through your private health insurance. The extent of your cover depends on the type of policy and extras you select. There are various limits that may apply, for example a limit per service, per year, or lifetime limits. Check with your private health insurer for more details.
Helping Children with Autism Package (Medicare Benefits Scheme)
A paediatrician can allocate up to 20 sessions for treatment from allied health disciplines, including speech pathology if your child has a diagnosis of autism or they suspect may have autism. A Paediatrician or Psychiatrist determines the child's eligibility for the program and will require a referral from these professionals to access this medicate rebate ($72.95 per session.) To receive this scheme, your child must be under 13 years of age at time of diagnosis and under 15 years of age when receiving treatment.
